• Remember Picasso's girl before a mirror?
• Vivid colors and a distorted perspective create an extremely emotional mood in this image of a young woman looking at herself in a mirror. The mirror is as old as history; it is history's finest metaphor.
• In the context of Indian civilizations the mirror has always been an integral part of the feminine mystique, of her essential ritual, which in ancient texts and the performing arts was referred to as Shringar. This exhibition looks at the mirror in a new light. Darpan is the mirror that speaks, that narrates, that reveals or seeks to conceal the inner true self that the artist wishes to portray. It is an inner awakening, a questioning, a purpose that seeks to establish something between the artist and the subject. It is the composition that will ignite many a katha. Could Darpan be empty?
• But, in art, when the mirror is empty, the artist fills it with his imagination. This is an invitation to Darpan. It is an attempt to ignite discourse in one of the oldest forms of the application of the invention of mercury, and fast-forward it to the modernist epoch.

• The works : Curated by the renowned Art Critic Uma Nair, Darpan will have about 30-35 artworks bringing together not only the painters and the sculptors but also a few photographers putting forth their interpretation of the theme as a part of the exhibition.
