| CLASSICAL DANCE | Kathak Recital By Nandini Sinha from Kolkata, disciple of Pt. Vijai Shankar and Pt. Birju Maharaj - 12th April, 2007

Event Info : Nandini, a representative of the Lucknow gharana style of Kathak, studied under the guidance of the eminent Kathak exponent, Pt. Vijai Shankar. Later she studied the finer nuances of this dance form from none other than the doyen of the Lucknow gharana, Pt. Birju Maharaj. Nandini had the privilege of being exposed to a wide range of Indian classical dance forms and of participating in the choreographic productions of leading dance gurus, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Vijai Shankar, Smt Kumudini Lakhia and others.

As a solo artist, Nandini has been regularly presenting programmes at major dance platforms and festivals in India and abroad. These include, Sarrachandrika, Delhi; Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi, National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai; Uday Shankar Centenary Programme, Kolkata, Polachi Dance Festival, Chennai, Baba Allaauddin Khan Samaroh, Madhya Pradesh; Mahaballipuram Festival, Chaennai, Konarak Festival, Orissa; to name just a few. She has performed and toured extensively in Spain, USA, Canada, Germany, and UK.
Nandini has also choreographed a number of ballets and group shows which have been highly acclaimed. A recipient of the Senior National Scholarship and a fellowship from the Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Nandini is also an external examiner for Rabindra Bharati University.
To promote classical dance and music, Nandini has started her own school Arpan – Centre for Performing Arts and Research Studies for normal as well as physically challenged students.
