  • Wolfgang Storch, born in 1943 in Berlin, is curator, dramaturg, director, writer and lecturer. He studied the dramatic arts, German literature and art history in Cologne, Vienna, Hamburg and Munich. The focus of his work is on the inter-relationship between the arts, particularly theatre and visual art, Greek and Germanic myths, exchanges in the Mediterranean region, Richard Wagner, Bertolt Brecht and Heiner Müller. Storch divides his time between Volterra, Italy, and Berlin.
  • Wolfgang Storch will be present at the opening to accompany visitors through the exhibition. He will also conduct workshops with students.
  • More Info : The starting point and thesis of the ifa exhibition The Scenic Eye is the new understanding of theatre and fine arts that has evolved since the 1960s. Modern fine arts have taken over theatrical forms and the increasing use of pictures and signs on stage have made speechless acting a new domain. Against this background the following question can be posed: how have the two forms of art perceived the development and how have they benefited from each other? Curator Wolfgang Storch asked nineteen male and female artists to enter into an imaginary dialogue with theatre as the medium. Their task was to reflect upon the interplay of direction, production, stage, actor, and audience. The result is works of art which apply their own artistic strategies—some free, some based on literary material—to theatre. The exhibition is a lively dialogue between two closely related art forms.
  • The installations, photographs, plates, and other objects have been created by the following artists:
  • Klaus vom Bruch, Carlfriedrich Claus, Hartwig Ebersbach, Jochen Gerz, Rainer Görss, Magdalena Jetelová, Hans Peter Kuhn, Raimund Kummer, Mark Lammert, Olaf Metzel, Hermann Pitz, Karlheinz Schäfer, Thomas Schütte, Katharina Sieverding, Rosemarie Trockel, Günther Uecker, Wolf Vostell, Ute Weiss-Leder, Qin Yufen
