  • Are You Ready For The Next Challenge?
  • Children from all over the UK and our British Council library networks in India will be flocking to their local libraries to take part in a special reading challenge Reading Mission – and this is one top secret mission they’ll all choose to accept!
  • The Reading Mission is a programme to encourage the habit of reading among Young Learners between the ages 5 to 14 years. It challenges children to read six or more books of their own choice from the carefully chosen list of books and become special Reading Agents. The special agent receives a uniquely designed metallic special agent attaché case like folder which open up to reveal its top secret content and explains how the mission works to the children who sign up for the challenge. They discover three missions that will test their powers of observation, their ingenuity and their logic with specially-devised activities. Parts of the mission are explained in code so agents can use the code-buster included in their pack. But cracking codes and solving puzzles is just one aspect of the dual mission – the agents have to sign up to read books, keep track of their reading, write reviews, and spread the word about how good books are using special ‘top secret’ messages!
  • To encourage agents to complete their challenge, there will be Mission Accomplished medals and certificates to be distributed. By completing their mission, children have a genuine sense of achievement associated with the library. Last year, more than 600,000 children the world over took part in The Reading Voyage, and over 300,000 read six or more books.

(Daniela Benelli – Assessora alla Cultura, culture e integrazione. Arianna Censi, Consigliera delegata alle Politiche di genere, Provincia di Milano) “What would naturally emerge from Crosspolynations would be a cross cultural dialogue, a bridge which connects the two worlds, the worlds of the Milanese artist Barbara Pietrasanta and the Delhi based Remen Chopra. Mumbai based Hema Upadhyaye who works with mixed media and installations became the ‘near perfect’ thread weaving the cross-cultural dialogue. These artists all shared the very important characteristics that brought them to one place , their creative processes in developing a visual statement of their lives to present and share with us all the temporal realms of the feminine”.
