Event Details : Sohaila Kapur's Bollywood-based comedy, `Mahim Junction' is back in Delhi after an international tour.
Synopsis : The story is set in a local train platform in suburban Mumbai, with an adjoining slum. The motley crowd that inhabits the slum are Rahim, the local dada, a good samaritan with a heart of gold, in love with Radha, the belle who has many hearts wanting to beat in tune with hers. Belonging to differing faiths, their fear, that their respective families will never accept their love, is real.
`Mahim Junction’, The Musical, is a retro-Bollywood show of the time heroes wore their hearts on their sleeves and simpering heroines shimmied their way through Bombay’s mean streets. Replete with original songs and dances, the ingredients of a quintessential 70s Bollyood movie are stirred, mixed and spiced up with a contemporary sensibility. The musical opened to a packed house as `Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan’, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2002, where it won an award and was subsequently invited by the Arts Council of the U.K. for a five city British tour. Subsequently, the play held sold out shows in Singapore.
After singapore, the play opened as `mahim junction' in india in dec 2008 and thereafter has travelled to dubai, was selected for the prestigious qadir ali baig festival in hyderabad in 2009, and for bahrangam, the national school of drama's delhi- based international theatre festival, in 2010 and is travelling to muscat, malaysia and china this year, apart from several house full performances in Delhi.
