Event Details : ‘ Let the Music Take You’ An exhibition of recent paintings by London and Dubai based artist Prodeep Mookerjee.
The works were created, as he puts it, “in a glass box overlooking the Arabian Sea”. The pressure cooker atmosphere of desert transformation and frenetic city existence, adds piquancy to his profound understanding of light, contrasted as it is against his plumbing of the depths of his soul.  Prodeep describes his journey into the visual arts, a feast of colour, form and deep insight. He reveals “it was by sheer coincidence that I found a box of watercolours left behind by Krithika, after she moved to our London home in April 2007. I started doodling - painted a face – at first, everything went into the bin; images - interesting, intriguing, even eccentric, came and went; lost under an untutored hand.”
He shared his images with a close friend, Dr Sharokh Engineer, incidentally an avid art collector. A few days later, some tubes of paint, brushes and a pad of acid free paper were delivered to his home, and that was the turning point of his artistic career.
“I have not looked back since then,” I carried on with my experiments with form and colour while journeying into the corners of my mind. My paintings are unplanned, untutored, and spontaneous.”
The whole process revealed to him a new language of communication, one that he had not earlier considered a part of himself. “I felt as though I suddenly had learned to talk, and I had a lot to say.”
Prodeep Mookerjee’s versatile approach has been appreciated by critics and fellow artists. His wide range of palette and proficiency over it, including layers of thick oil strokes and delicate shades of acrylic, an unforgiving medium boldly applied with supreme confidence, is apparent. He works mostly in oils - undiluted, using a spatula, or his fingers, and occasionally a brush. Elaborating on his methods, he states: “I sketch rough, if at all, work wet-on-wet, and once dry.... 'finish' it….“
The artist’s works find place in prestigious private international collections.  Significantly, curated shows of his works will be hosted across major Indian metros over the next few months.
