Still Waiting by Ashutosh Narayan (1 Minute) -- The dreams of a 26-year-old girl with a disability, who wants to get married, but whose parents think she should marry someone with a disability. Dream it, Do it by Ashutosh Narayan (5 minutes) -- Preeti Monga, who dropped out of school because of her visual impairment, has no regrets. The film shows the positivism and untiring attitude of Monga, a public relations officer in an eye-care centre who runs an NGO for handicapped people giving corporate training to ‘normal’ people.
Autism: The Musical by Patricia Regan (93 minutes) -- Follows five autistic children and their families over the course of six months and captures their distinct personal struggles, pressures and triumphs as the children write, rehearse and perform their own full length musical. Winner of two Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Picture diting.
6th October :
Sparsh by Vrishnika (3 minutes) -- Parents, teachers and siblings of a child with a disability tend to be so over protective of the child that they create an invisible barrier around them. This social isolation coupled with over expectation can crush the child. Acceptance for existence and not for achievements is the key to a peaceful and a truly diverse society.
Dark by Indranil Goswami (1 minute) -- The strength of a blind person lies in the ability of seeing in darkness. During a power cut, he comfortably looks for a candle and lights it for others who have vision.
Praying with Lior by Ilana Trachtman (87 minutes) -- Asking whether someone with Down’s syndrome can be a “spiritual genius,” the film follows Lior preparing for his bar mitzvah. Many believe Lior is close to God – at least that’s what his family and community believe – through he’s also a burden, a best friend, an inspiration and an embarrassment, depending on who is asked and when. Winner of eight awards.
