Event Details : Bank on Art presents ‘A Golden Opportunity---2009’ A group exhibition of paintings and sculptures by various artists.
In the 1950s and the 60s, the advertisement for the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II simply said, "At 60 miles an hour, the loudest noise in the new Rolls-Royce comes from the electric clock.”
Created by David Ogilvy, founder and patriarch of Ogilvy and Mather, it quickly became one of the most defining moments in advertising history.
Beyond advertising, art had just met luxury, to begin what many call a torrid love affair between global luxury and contemporary art that refuses to cool anytime soon! Of course art and luxe collaborated much before that. In the 1920s, surrealist Salvador Dalí created jewellery and dresses for Coco Chanel and especially Elsa Schiaparelli.
Since then powerhouses such as Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, luxury travel companies, beachfront villas, hotels and resorts, and even exotic vineyards and chateaus have led the charge of the luxe brigade to court contemporary art, and have stepped up the ante in recent times. Even smaller names are now playing the art card. Market strategists in the luxury space believe that contemporary art means value in terms of prestige and profitability.
To celebrate Art on Luxe Street, as an indulgence of the rich and the famous, ‘Bank on Art’ has put together an eclectic collection of Indian masterpieces – all collectibles from renowned contemporary artists. Presented by Bank on Art, ‘A Golden Opportunity—2009’ showcases some stunning oeuvres d’art by renowned contemporary artists, all across India----from Baroda to Mumbai to Delhi and the ubiquitous South. These works represent the best in Indian contemporary art, today.
Adds Niten Mehta, “I have tried to leverage emerging forces in the domestic art market, by showcasing famed artists, as well as providing a platform for upcoming Indian art at its very best, where all the artists use various media to emote individual messages. The exhibition is a synthesis of the best contemporary artists who have survived the test of time as well as the young and potential torchbearers of Indian art in a rapidly evolving market. So comes this show of spectacular forms, magnificent textures and myriad hues that to me defines the ultimate essence of growing Indian contemporary art and also the idea that luxury is timeless.”
The exhibition brings together, under one aegis, various artists, united in their diversity and artistic expressions, while retaining their own individuality and artistic statement. Indian flavour.
The exhibition is a stunning spectacle of artworks by Seema Kohli, sculptors Anuj Kumar Poddar and Loknath Sinha, Arunanshu Chaudhury, Kazi Naseer, Sachin Karne, Nikhileshwar Barua, Poushali Das, T. M Azees, Kamar Alam, Heeral Trivedi, Mousumi Biswas, Indrapramit Roy, Saptrishi, Shubra Das, amongst others. Their works span scale, form, size and texture.
