Kri Foundation, which has initiated many events using dance and the arts, to enrich the cultural life of India, and particularly that of the city of Delhi, takes this opportunity to showcase the traditional and modern faces of Dance.
DanzLenz, the video dance Festival of India, is a pioneering international effort of the Foundation. Video dance had certain distinct characteristics which define it, and make it different from the regular understanding of both film and dance. It takes its strength from both, but is an expression of a new genre of art. Video dance is not tied to music, rhythms and juxtaposes the rhythms of the film process, with the rhythms of dance movement projected and located in decontextualised settings.
Its concerns are not to create beauty or lull the sense with the familiar, but to depict the power and brilliance of the movements of dance itself. Video dance takes you to those angles and sides of dance to which dance in performance can never succeed in doing.
The highlight of the celebrations will be the never before coming together of three of India’s most celebrated dancers- Mrs. Sonal Mansingh, Odissi dancer, Ms. Prathibha Prahlad, Bharatanatyam dancer, and Mr. Jayant Kastuar, Kathak. All these three dancers, masters and renowned artistes in their own right, will perform to live accompaniment, to celebrate dance.
