Event Description: Beyond Bias - Making AI More Inclusive, Panel Discussion | Artificial Intelligence, Culture, and Representation

How can artificial intelligence reflect a wider range of cultural narratives — especially those outside the Western canon? Join us for a panel discussion with speakers from the cultural and tech sectors, focusing on how AI systems shape and are shaped by issues of representation, access, and inclusion.

This conversation is part of "Beyond Bias – Making AI More Inclusive", an initiative that explores the impact of bias in AI, particularly in relation to cultural practices from non-Western contexts.

The discussion will address questions such as:

• How can AI tools be designed to support cultural creators, not just large tech companies or institutions?

• How does AI engage with traditional forms of expression such as craft, folk art, iconography, and sacred imagery?

• In what ways do factors like gender, caste, race, and sexuality influence how bias appears in AI systems?

• What role can cultural practitioners and institutions play in shaping more inclusive AI development?

Panelists will share experiences and perspectives on how to build better practices and partnerships between the cultural and tech sectors. 

About the project

The initiative Beyond Bias – making AI more inclusive is a collaborative effort by the Goethe-Institut in India and Gooey.AI, dedicated to reimagining the way generative AI is built. We follow a proactive, participatory process of actively identifying and addressing embedded biases. Together, we seek to demonstrate how inclusive, value-driven AI tools and models can be created through a collective and transparent process.

The initiative led to the drafting of a living manifesto, rooted in principles of equity, transparency, and ethical AI development. Participants collaboratively shaped actionable guidelines, which now serve as the cornerstone for both the manifesto and an early wireframe prototype of an inclusive AI tool.
