Event Description : DANCE : For over a decade, every World Dance Day, Geeta Chandran’s celebrations have acquired legendary status. Each year’s celebrations are planned differently, and this year to a heady mix awaits audiences. Dancer Geeta Chandran, who was awarded the Padmashri by the President of India. Natya Vriksha’s World Dance Day, 2017 is in collaboration with Ministry of Culture and the India International Centre.

April 29th, 2017 International Dance Day, also known as World Dance Day, is celebrated through promotion by the International Dance Council (CID). The day was introduced in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute. The date was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, who was born in 1727, a French dancer and ballet master and a great reformer of dance.

Schedule :

DAY I : Saturday, April 29th, 2017 :
10am to 12noon :      Everyone Can Dance - Bharatanatyam workshop by Dancer Geeta Chandran (For all those who have not had any formal dance training; Age no bar!)
4pm :                          Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan will launch DANCE IN RETROSPECT Part II edited by Dr Sunil Kothari, followed by a dialogue with Dr. Kothari on his life and work.

6:30pm :                     Bharatanatyam by Aniruddha Knight (grandson of Balasaraswati)
7:45pm :                     Kathak by Gauri Diwakar

DAY II : Sunday, April 30th, 2017 :
10am to 12noon :      Chhau Workshop conducted by Guru Shashadhar Acharya (Open to dancers of all styles)
4pm :                          Health for Dance: Illustrated lecture by Dr. Sheela Nambiar
