Event Description : DANCE "Say, What?" by Vishal Sarvaiya and Avantika Bahl 

Say, what? is a contemporary dance duet that explores the embodiment of sign language and movement and is a collaboration between a hearing and a deaf dancer.

Say, what? focuses on the interaction between two people who slide between using and abandoning codified language. As the audience encounters various conversations that are set up in space using sign language as a point of entry, the role of gesture is re-interpreted and de-mystified within the realm of communication. By lending itself to abstract proportions, this piece opens up a world of meaning-making that is both embodied and visceral in nature. 

Say, What? is Avantika’s second full length work after {wonkot} that premiered at The NCPA. She also toured across multiple cities with two short solos 110048,M81 and Here.  

Choreographed by: Avantika Bahl, a contemporary dance choreographer based in Mumbai.
