Event Description : TALK “The Trishanku Nation: Memory, Self and Society in Contemporary India” by Prof. Deepak Kumar, Professor, Zakir Husain Centre for Educational Studies, JNU

Prof. Deepak Kumar teaches history of science and education at the Zakir Husain Centre for Educational Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He also holds a concurrent professorship at the Centre for Media Studies, JNU.

Taking a cue from the story of Trishanku, the mythological king stuck in limbo between heaven and earth, Prof. Deepak Kumar argues in his recent book ‘The Trishanku Nation: Memory, Self and Society in Contemporary India’ that India is stuck in limbo between modernity and tradition; development and corruption; and diversity and communalism. In this talk Prof. Kumar will discuss the main ideas in his book.
