Event Description : Arengetram performance of Prihana Bhasin, disciple of Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy
Nritya Kaustubha presents Bharatnatyam Arengetram performance by Prihana Bhasin disciple of Guru Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy (Padma Vibhushan).
Arangetram is an important occasion in the career of any Bharatanatyam dancer.
After several years — decades even — of arduous training, when the Guru is confident that the disciple can sustain a solo performance, the Arangetram is announced.
Thus the Arangetram is an honour to the Guru; a momentous rite of passage, it marks the first milestone in the disciple’s journey into the ocean of Bharatanatyam.
About Prihana Bhasin: : Born in 1990, PRIHANA BHASIN started learning Bharatanatyam when she was only six years old. She came under the direct tutelage of Guru Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy at the age of 18. Under Dr. Krishnamurthy’s personal attention and guidance for the past eight years, she has explored diverse aspects of Bharatanatyam.
After finishing her primary education from The Shri Ram School, Delhi in 2008, Prihana went on to complete her graduation and then her MBA in Marketing. She has done various performances at the university level.
While dancing is Prihana’s passion, she is also a blogger by choice and photographer.
About Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy : Brought up in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy started dancing at an early age. By the age of 16, she was a professional dancer and took this up full time. She received the Padma Shree in 1968, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2016, besides various other accolades. Today, Dr. Krishnamurthy runs a successful school in New Delhi imparting her knowledge to her shishiyas and is amongst the highest and most revered names in Indian Classical Dancing.
In the numerous years at Nritya Kaustubha, Dr. Krishnamurthy has taught hundreds of students. The foremost quality she looks for in her disciples is compassion, which she believes to be the most important asset.
