Event Description : THEATRE : Aakriti presents "Amitakkhar" Bengali Play.

About the Play

(Travails of an impoverished man, struggling to make ends meet, unwittingly drawn into quagmire of politics, makes one lat-ditch effort for redemption)

In the complex urban socio-political milieu, where life is a constant struggle, is it justified to give in to the greed inherent in man just for one’s subsistence ? Leading a life of deceit day in and day out and the conflict it causes, can devastate the self-respect of a simple folk.

The play revolves around Twishampati, an unassuming elderly man, struggling to make both ends meet. At the behest of a corrupt politician, he transforms himself into a fake freedom fighter in order to earn monthly pension given by the Govt. He starts reading books on freedom struggle, giving speeches in meetings about the ideals of the revolutionaries of yester years, and lambasting the hypocrisy and dishonesty of the present-day elites. But such goings-on cannot be smooth sailing for long. It has its pitfall. His family life starts getting badly affected and he realizes that he has bitten off more than he can chew.

Now Twishampati is left with the choice – follow the dictates of his conscience, stop pretending to be a freedom fighter and return to his old hardship days.
