Event Description : GALLERYSKE is pleased to announce "Mind The Gap" Photography Show by Dia Mehta Bhupal
Bhupal’s practice examines the contemporary status of photographic images, the liminal possibility of introspection, and hidden structures of meaning in the mundane. She has developed a unique approach to photography. She makes images of rooms and other spaces that appear at once both strange and familiar. In fact, her photographs are of three-dimensional sets, mostly life size, painstakingly constructed from magazines, newspaper and cardboard.
At first sight, the architectural subjects represented by Bhupal’s photographs seem devoid of human presence but they relate to social sites where public and private moments often uncannily coexist. Although people are figuratively absent, what remains are images which become models to the viewer of the memory, experience, and contemplation of these moments. In a world saturated with manipulated or mediated images, MIND THE GAP re-evaluates the potential of the photographic medium.
Dia Mehta Bhupal’s recent group exhibitions include: Guangzhou International Art Fair, Gallery BMB, Mumbai (2010), Her Work is Never Done, curated by Bose Krishnamachari, Galley BMB, Mumbai (2010), SPANDAN 4, Articullate Art Gallery, Mumbai (2009), Dubai Art Fair, Gallery Project 88, (2009), SPANDAN 3, Articullate Art Gallery, Mumbai (2008), The Miniature Format Show, Sanstache Art Gallery, Mumbai (2008), Spy, curated by Bose Krishnamachari, The Museum Gallery, Mumbai, (2007). She received her education at Parsons School of Design, New York (2003-2006) and Central and Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London (2002 – 2003). The artist lives and works in Hyderabad, India.
