Event Description : Dark Frames presents "Unfreedom" film screening. 

UNFREEDOM is an urgent contemporary thriller about a society torn apart by political, religious, and sexual turmoil. Shifting between New York and New Delhi, the film juxtaposes two powerful and unflinching stories about religious fundamentalism and intolerance, one of which follows a Muslim terrorist attempting to silence a liberal Muslim scholar, while the other is about a young woman who defies her devout father and escapes an arranged marriage because she is secretly embroiled in a taboo lesbian romance. In this searing portrait of the polarized world we live in, all four characters go to their absolute limit-and beyond-in their struggle to defend their deeply-held and conflicting viewpoints on freedom, faith, family and love.

Directed by Raj Amit Kumar 
Raj Amit Kumar is the writer, producer, director of UNFREEDOM. He also founded Dark Frames, a boutique distribution company that focuses on distribution of Indian Independent films in North America.
He graduated in Masters of Arts in Cinema and Media Studies from City University of New York (CUNY) where he received the George Custen Memorial Award for Academic Excellence. He also did his PHD coursework in Cinema studies from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.  
His talent and intellect have also been commended with awards such as the National Scholarship of India for Academic Excellence and the Faculty Screenwriting Award at University of film and Video Association (UFVA) 2009
