Event Description : Solo Show by Shipra Bhattacharya.
Submerged within whirlpools of womanhood, Shipra Bhattacharya’s creativity seems to stem from and revolve around the image of fair sex. She and her world continues to be the compulsive and central theme for much of Shipra’s creative oeuvre whether one looks at her smaller works or examines some of her more ambitious and larger canvases. What endows her work with its distinctive character is its look that is quiet, content and non provocative, somewhat like the artist’s own persona. It neither attempts to provoke a feminist discourse nor to raise any issues around gender bias or sexist outlook. Her work is simply about feminine fantasies that add up to make a beautiful portrayal of women in their varied images, colors, garbs and moods often in domestic environment, seemingly comfortable and at peace within themselves to the total exclusion of a male gaze or perspective even though men do occasionally make an appearance in some of her frames.
