Event Description : Contemporary Arts Week.
For much of north India and more so for Delhi, the coming of October marks the start of the festive season. With the mercury showing mercy by dropping - particularly in the evenings –
to a level where people can move out without feeling the heat or the humidity, arts and culture organizations become active.
The Contemporary Arts Week commencing from the first weekend of October is the first to take advantage of the season, with an event that much larger in terms of spread and scope than last year. There are 45 performances lasting over eight days in as many locations with 300 artistes.
Contemporary Arts Week is organized by Friends of Art who’s Directors are Shohini Dutta and Pankaj Bajaj.
Pankaj Bajaj, Festival Director Says: “Contemporary Arts Week is a weeklong performing arts festival that is hosted in Delhi. We put together acts from hundreds of artists across genres like, dance, music, theatre, stand-up comedy, puppetry, clowning, slam poetry, spoken word, as well as, photography, painting and digital arts. When people used to hear our organisation's name Friends of Art, they thought of fine arts. We have come a long way in presenting to people various forms in performing arts and to create a platform for other genres beyond Music that has many festivals in its genre alone”.
Shohini Dutta, Festival Director Says: “Contemporary Arts Week is a innovative to bring performing arts into forefront, the idea is not to have general specific festival but a holistic preview of arts. It’s a multi venue arts concept which hope to make arts and artists accessible to audiences”
Both the Directors Said “CAW is a platform for upcoming artists to feature as well as a wonderful opportunity for audiences to see all their heart desires in performing arts. The idea to do 44 events in a week is to cover as much genres as we can and for an audience to know that they will surely find something of their interest in the week long celebration”.
Essentially, the focus this year is to make performing arts accessible.
Arts are by the people and generally for the people, and show the changing trends in society.
