Event Description : Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan cordially invites you to a talk by Smt. Kapila Vatsyayan (leading Indian Scholar, Former MP, Rajya Sabha & Former Secretary, Govt. of India) on "Oral and the Written : Opposites or Complementary".
About Kapila Vatsyayan : Kapila Vatsyayan is a leading Indian scholar of classical Indian dance and Indian art and architecture. Vatsyayan received her from the University of Michigan and PhD. from the Banaras Hindu University. She is the author of many books including The Square and the Circle of Indian Arts, Bharata: The Natya Sastra, and Matralaksanam. She was the founder-director of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in Delhi.
She has also served as Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Education, Department of Arts and Culture. She established many institutions of higher education in India. She has also served as a Member ofthe Rajya Sabha. She has received the Flajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, and "Outstanding Contribution to Dance Research" award given by Congress on Research in Dance. The government of India conferred the Padma Vibhushan on her in 2011.
