Event Description : Gati Dance Forum presents "A Padam" dance performance by Shreya Kumar and Nawa Lanzilotti.

Trained in Bharatanatyam and contemporary dance disciplines, artist-in-residence Shreya Kumar uses the two dance vocabularies as halves of a whole and endeavors to find an honest mode of expression through their integration. Shreya uses imagery and movement from Bharatanatyam padams in shringar (love), bhakti (devotion), and vatsalya(affection) traditions with contemporary dance language as she attempts to overcome her own disconnect with the classical processes. To further this investigation, she collaborates with Western and Hindustani Classical cellist Nawa Lanzilotti, who explores the duality of learning two musical forms, as well as integrating Shreya’s process to compose a score. The two artists reflect on each other’s sonic and physical space, internalizing their distinct disciplines to create an interactive and immersive performance.
