Event Description : Bharatanatyam Arangetram of Kumari. Aishwarya Shankar Disciple of Dr. Yamini Krishnamurti.

The Nritya
Bharatanatyam, a dynamic classical dance, combination of Bhava, Raga, Tala and Natya, is one of the oldest Indian Classical Dance styles inspired, originated and nurtured in the temples of Southern India since the ancient times and later cherished in royal courts. A
celebrated art form, Bharatanatyam is handed down as a living tradition from generation to generation. Known for its graceful sculpturesque poses, this dance style encompasses rhythm, music and abhinaya. Bharatnatyam is the embodiment of music in visual form, a
ceremony and an act of devotion to the divine moulded in a spiritual and aesthetic artistic experience. Bharatanatyam's contribution to the rich heritage of Indian classical dance has
crowned it as the 'Dance of India'.

Arangetram
Celebrating the years of dedication and hardwork of both Guru and Shishya, Arangetram,
derived from the Tamil words "Arangu" (Stage) and "Etram" (To enter), marks the debut
onstage solo performance of a classical art student.

After arduous training under the loving and watchful eye of the Guru, the dancer nally presents 'Margam' (Complete Range) on the stage before an invited audience.

The Arangetram is a great milestone in the career of a dancer and demonstrates her
evolution as a solo performer. It is the very rst step towards the horizon of a divine art form.

The Guru: Dr. Yamini Krishnamurti
Yamini Krishnamurti is best known for her worldwide stage presentations of Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi and Odissi. A name synonymous with classical dance in India, Yamini became a legend in her youth. Her dancing career brought her many awards including the 'Padma
Bhushan' and 'Kalidas Saman' in 2001. She is perhaps the youngest recipient of the 'Padma Shree' award (1968) and has been presented the "Bharatnatyam award" by the Central Sangeet Natak Academy. For her contribution to the development and promotion of Indian classical dance forms, Yamini was recognized as 'Asthana Nartaki' (resident dancer) of the famed temple of Lord Venkateshware at Tirupati.Shri Venkateshwara University has presented her with the Honorary Degree of D. Lit. Dr. Yamini has taken it upon herself to pass on her art form to the younger generation. Her institute in New Delhi, Yamini School
of Dance, has been imparting training in Bharatnatyam since 1990.
