Event Description : "India: A Quest" Solo Bharatanatyam recital by Elina Abakarova of Ukraine, training in Bharatanatyam for several years under Anjana Rajan

Accompanist : G. Elangovan (vocal), Anjana Rajan (nattuvangam), VSK Annadorai (violin), Tanjavur Kesavan (mridangam)

About the Artist : Elina Abakarova first came to India around the year 2000 to study Bharatanatyam as an international scholar under the scholarship scheme of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. She enrolled at Kalashram, where Anjana Rajan introduced her to the basics of Bharatanatyam. After two years she returned to Ukraine and was later granted a further scholarship to study for one year under Jayalakshmi Eshwar. Since February 2013 she has been training intensively under Anjana Rajan and presented her Bharatanatyam solo debut (arangetram) in December 2013. Apart from Bharatanatyam, she has a grounding in Kathak, Sanskrit and Hindi, and has also studied Ballroom and social dances of Europe and Latin America.

About the Organization (Theatre Group / Cultural Organization / Event Management Company etc.) : Sadhana Sanskriti Pratishthan is a registered trust founded by the late Shri Lalit Mohan Thapalyal, a playwright, author, theatre director and actor, to give concrete shape to his belief in the power of art to transform society. It is known for its active theatre group and the regular presentation of programmes of dance, music and theatre. Sadhana is partnered in this programme by the India Ukraine Friendship Association of IAFFC. This programme is being presented with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in India.
