Event Description : The third National Museum Lecture 'What can Exhibitions do for Museums?' by Dr. Neil MacGregor, Director, British Museum.
Dr. Neil MacGregor is a renowned British art historian. Most of all he is a great storyteller, a storyteller of objects and museums. Dr. MacGregor is in India in connection with the Ministry of Culture’s Leadership Training Programme which brings together museum professionals from India for a museum management training with British Museum.
Director, British Museum and In the recent past British Museum has lent objects from its priceless collection of world art to dozens of countries, cities, towns and village museums. Exhibitions have also been shown at CSMVS, Mumbai here in India which have been great crowd pullers. In this lecture, Dr. MacGregor will talk about the impact exhibitions have on the public profile of museums and the relationships they can build with people.
In his prolific career, Dr. MacGregor was the Editor of the Burlington Magazine from 1981 to
1987, the Director of the National Gallery, London, from 1987 to 2002, and was appointed Director of the British Museum in 2002. He has presented three television series on art and the BBC Radio 4 series A History of the World in 100 Objects, which aired in 2010 and later became a best-selling book.
