Event Description : Sahitya Akademi's Festival of Letters is an annual function where awards for the best book published in 24 recognized Indian languages including English are presented. Various literary programmes are also held in this annual function including the Akademi Exhibition, wherein, all the award winning titles from all the 24 languages since 1954 are exhibited apart from the photo exhibition where photos covering the poignant moments of Sahitya Akademi's history are displayed.
As we all know India is a land of diversity. Different Regions. Different Religions. Different Cultures. Different Languages.
The 'Festival of Letters' is a much awaited national event which will see the congregation of many literary greats in New Delhi including poets like Javed Akhtar, Subodh Sarkar, Anil Boro, Sitaram Sapolia, Ambika Dutt, Ramdev Tarachandani, Radhakant Thakur....and novelist like CN Ramachandran, Satish Kalashekhar, Temsula Ao, Katyani Vidmahe etc.

It is annual function where awards for the best book published in 24 recognized Indian languages including English are presented. Various literary programmes are also held in this annual function.
• AKADEMI EXHIBITION (14 March 2014, 10:30 a.m. onwards - Meghdoot Auditorium)
It is an annual photo exhibition where photos covering the poignant moments of Sahitya Akademi’s history will be displayed. Also the award winning titles from all the 24 languages since 1954 will be exhibited.
• SAMVATSAR LECTURE March 10, 2014, 6:00 p.m. - Rabidra Bhawan Lawn
It is an annual lecture given by one eminent scholar / writer on any topic of his / her choice on literature. This year the Samvatsar lecture will be delivered by the eminent Malayalam poet, O.N.V. Kurup.
• AWARDS CEREMONY Reception in the honour of Awardees (March 11, 2014, 4:00 p.m. - Rabidra Bhawan Lawn)
Sahitya Akademi Award presentation (March 11, 2014, 5:00 p.m. - Kamani Auditorium) Each year on the second day of the Festival of Letters, the President of the Sahitya Akademi presents the annual literary awards. The Award carries a cheque for Rupees One Lakh, a Sahitya Akademi plaque and a citation.
• AWARDEES’ MEET Awardees' Meet (March 12, 2014, 10:30 a.m. - Meghdoot Auditorium)
It is a platform during the annual Festival of Letters where the award winners from all the 24 languages speak and share their experiences on life in general and writing in particular.
• FOUNDATION DAY LECTURE (March 12, 2014, 5:00 p.m. - Sahitya Akademi Auditorium)
It is a lecture delivered by an eminent Indian on March 12th every year.
March 12th is the foundation day of the Sahitya Akademi.
The Akademi was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and others on March 12, 1954. This year the Foundation Day Lecture will be delivered by Justice M.N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India.
• INDIAN POETRY: THE NEW HARVEST - YOUNG POETS MEET (13 March 2014, 10:30 a.m. onwards - Meghdoot Auditorium)
• FACE TO FACE (March 13, 2014, 12:00 noon onwards - Meghdoot Auditorium)
Face to Face is an annual programme where an eminent scholar / writer from a particular language will interview and share his / her knowledge with the award winner in that language.
• NATIONAL SEMINAR ON LITERARY CRITICISM TODAY: TEXTS, TRENDS AND ISSUES (13 -15 March 2014 Thursday-Saturday, 10:30 a.m. onwards - Sahitya Akademi Auditorium)
• SPIN-A-TALE (March 14, 2014, 10:30 a.m. onwards - Meghdoot Auditorium)
Spin the Tale is a programme oriented towards showcasing and popularizing literature aimed at children across India. Many popular writers of children’s literature will be presented and their books will be exhibited.
