Event Description : The Films and Theatre Society presents MARASIM – A festival of play exploring human relationships.
About the festival (in brief) :
The Films and Theatre Society is known for designing and presenting creative theatre festivals which offer various plays placed bouquets of different themes. Next in such this is “Marasim” which a festival of plays that try to dig deep into the complexity of human relationships. The festival will open with Atul Satya Koushik’s play “BADE SHAHAR KE LOG” which is the story of a young struggling writer and his relationships with his landlord Shivraj who himself was a great writer, Shivraaj’s sister Mala who loves him silently, Sudhnshu his cousin brother who is a struggling artist and many others whom he meets in a big city of dreams. Second play to feature in the festival will be much awaited theatrical version of Mahesh Bhatt’s classic film ARTH. Like the film the play also revolves around the marital and extra-marital relationships of a film director and how these relationships change. Both the plays together are going to a visual musical treat for the audience and are going to serve a roller coaster ride high quality drama and emotions.

Atul Satya Koushik’s Bade Shahar Ke Log
Packed with drama, humor, music and dance this play by Atul Satya Koushik tries to bring out the struggle of a man coming from a small village in the mountains to a big city of dreams, a struggle which takes place not only in the physical world but also one which takes place with-in.
Vishnu an ordinary writer trying to make it big in the Bollywood of 90s finds himself totally defaced in terms of morality at the very beginning of his journey. He finds every aspect of life such as dreams, success, love and contentment redefined for him.
The play tries to signify the fact that the journey of a man takes place not only in the form of what he achieves over time but also what he becomes over time. The treatment of this play presents a successful blend between traditional real theatre and contemporary experimental style of storytelling.

Mahesh Bhatt’s ARTH
In 1982, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt made the critically acclaimed Arth, which looked at the bold subject of extra-marital relationships and also spoke about women’s rights. Now, after more than three decades, the director has decided to give a new lease of life to the film by adapting it into a play. The play which is being directed by Priyanka Pathak and produced by Sandiip Kapur has Imran Zahid in leading role. The play will be launched at The Films and Theatre Society’s festival Marasim which also features Atul Satya Koushik’s Bade Shahar Ke Log.
