Event Description : Lodi-The Garden Restaurant Presents Amarrass Night with a dub roots special featuring Barmer Boys and DJ Spincycle.
BARMER BOYS Stars of MTV Coke Studio Season 3 and barely in their 30’s, the Barmer Boys carry forward the centuries-old musical tradition of the Manganiyars and are leading examples of Rajasthani folk and Sufi music. The band's versatility of styles and bubbling energy infuses each performance - from soulful Sufi kalaams to uplifting wedding and celebratory songs, to boisterous jams with beat-boxing. Their debut album "At Home: Barmer Boys" was released in Dec 2012 on Amarrass Records. The groups formed in 2011 and have since performed with a host of world renowned artists including Vieux Farka Toure, Bombino, BaBa ZuLa, Madou Sidiki Diabate, Rupa and the April Fishes, and The Gypsy All-Stars.
They have performed across India at the Amarrass Desert Music Festival (2011, 2012), The Elders Conference, Escape Festival, Bhakti Samaroh and more. Mangey Khan, lead singer of Barmer Boys was a featured artist on ‘Mitha Bol’ (2011, Amarrass Records, nominated for 'Folk Album of the Year' at the Global Indian Music Awards 2012). 2014 is an exciting year for the Barmer Boys as they commence their first US tour this April (including NYC, San Jose and Chicago), the Borneo World Music Festival and feature at Roskilde festival in Denmark - one of Europe's largest and most prestigious festivals!
DJ SPINCYCLE is label co-founder, radio jockey and vinyl junkie Ankur Malhotra. A love for analog, dub, and the dance floor sounds of Detroit, Chicago, Berlin, London, Lagos and beyond... two turntables and a mixer... layers of sound... music to make you dance. DJ Spincycle has performed at clubs, festivals and venues around the US Midwest and in Delhi region and opened for acts like Kid Koala and Charanjit Singh, and has collaborated with live acts such as Barmer Boys and Kicksville.
