Event Description : The play Tartuffe is contemporary in the Indian context today itself. This idea can be determined from the fact that there are some mushroom grows in the Indian society. Today they are behind the bars because of their hypocrisy and misdeeds, but some are walking freely. Tartuffe is a story of such a hypocrite.
The head of the family Lala Ram Swaroop impressed by Tartuffe and brought him to home and worship blindly. But the other members of the family got disturb and unhappy by him. They wanted to kick out him, but Lala become against the family members. Lala not only ready to get marry her daughter with him but also signed the whole property papers for Tartuffe. One day Lala’s wife Rama, gives a concrete proof about his dirty thoughts that he wants to seduce physically. Lala soon realized his mistake, but till then the situation get worst and out of control. Tartuffe runs away with cash and property papers. Now he wants to get out all family members as an owner of the house. Then Bala servant of Lala, takes a clever action. Tartuffe is arrested with the help of court beliff and policeman.
History : The play Tartuffe was written 350 years ago by the worlds’ famous international comedy king Moliere. In the 17th century this contemporary drama was a satire on hypocrites who mislead the direction of the people in the name of religion for their self-interests. The play Tartuffe was banned legally, but Moliere won the case.
This drama is so contemporary in the Indian context. The idea can be determined from the fact that there is a fungus grows in Indian society, who took advantage of people's religious faith. They are behind the bars today because of their hypocrisy and misdeeds, but some are still walking freely. Be careful of theme! Tartuffe is a story of such a hypocrite.
