Event Description : Opera At Habitat Series. Rossini’s Il Barbiere Di Siviglia (The Barber Of Seville)
Sunit Tandon introduces a screening of the classic filmed version of the ever-popular opera buffa or comic opera by the highly acclaimed and sometimes controversial French opera. This delightful version of the opera has a stellar cast of some of the greatest singers in this repertoire, including the tenor Luigi Alva, the baritone Hermann Prey and the mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza.
Conducted by Claudio Abbado, the opera deals with Count Almaviva’s strenuous efforts to woo the beautiful Rosina and win her hand in marriage. With the help of the barber and general factotum Figaro, he plans how to outwit Rosina’s guardian, Dr.Bartolo, who has his eye on her fortune.
