Synopsis: In certain African and Caribbean cultures, the powerful spirit of “JuJu“, a mystical source of energy, is well known. It is exactly this magic power that becomes feasible through the music of Julia Schreitl’s saxophone and Judith Reiter’s viola. They take the audience on a thrilling journey to new sound dimensions, by means of singing, whistling, using different types of woodwind instruments and a whole range of contemporary playing techniques. They both play their own compositions and improvisations and enjoy playing beautiful melodies and do not flinch from creating crazy sounds. Insiders say that Juju warms your heart and strengthens your soul. 

Biography : The two musicians got to know each other while studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. The duo JuJu was born after both of them came back from an exchange study programme abroad in fall 2007. At first, they mainly improvised together but after some time, both of them wrote compositions and tunes especially for this duo and played many performances between 2008 and 2010. The year 2011 was dedicated to the production of their CD “Short Stories“, which was finally released at Preiser Records, Vienna in January 2012. Furthermore, JuJu was selected for the “New Austrian Sound of Music“ in the category Jazz for the years 2012 and 2013, a programme that supports young Austrian musicians playing abroad, presenting and representing Austria's dynamic music scene.
