Event Description : Odissi Recital by Dhara Dutta from Mumbai, Disciple of Guru Daksha Mashruwala.
Initiated into Indian classical dance at a very early age, Dhara started her training in Kuchipudi in Surat at the Gopuram School of Performing arts under the able tutelage of Smt Rita Choksi.
Having moved to Mumbai and captivated by the sheer lyricism and sensuousness of the Odissi dance style, she devoted herself completely and started her training in Odissi in 1997 under the expertise of her Guru Smt Daksha Mashruwala. She also got her basic training in her fundamentals from Guru Padmavibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra and participated in his workshops in Orissa and Mumbai which led to her perfecting her style further.
Apart from being a professional dancer and teacher, Dhara is also a multi-linguist and has completed her post graduation in English and French Literature from Mumbai University. Dhara has also been actively involved in the practice of Yoga and has been attending seminars and workshops on the same to enhance her understanding of one’s own body and in turn build balance and inner poise. 
Over the years Dhara has conducted as well as participated in various workshops related to her dance. These include the Nrityagram workshop on Odissi dance technique and understanding of one’s body to prevent physical injuries as a dancer by Smt.Bijoyini Satpathy from Bangalore; Kandyan Dance workshop from Srilanka’s famous Chitrasena dance troupe. In addition to this Dhara partook in a workshop conducted by SmtMadhavi Mudgal from Delhi on movement and innovation in choreography and the journey of a dancer from a student to a performer to finally that of a choreographer. And last but not the least in 2012 she was part of the Mudra workshop conducted by Dr.Rupert Johnson fromLondon at Yoga House, Bandra, which was based on the meditative techniques of yoga using the mudras to realize the full potential as a dancer. She has also conducted Odissi dance and Abhinaya workshops at Shri Ramli Ibrahim’s ‘Sutra’ dance theatre in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia through a series of lecture demonstrations and teaching.
Over the years Dhara has performed across India in all major venues of India including in Konark Festival, Orissa; Raindrop Festival in Mumbai; Kala Gurjari Festival in Mumbai; ISKON Temple Celebrations in Ujjain. In addition to this Dhara has also performed in International world conference – Sao Paolo, Brazil and in Feral Odissi in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and in Korean Mountain Gods Ritual Festival in South Korea.
Dhara is a solo dancer and teacher and has been teaching Odissi dance to young students for the past 5 years now. She wishes to follow the Guru Shishya Parampara and carry the Odissi dance legacy forward through her sheer passion and determination for the art form.
