Screenings :
2:00 pm: Tales From Napa
Lalit Vachani| PSBT| 26 min| English subtitles
Tales from Napa is the remarkable story of a little village that resisted the forces of Hindu fundamentalism during the 2002 anti-Muslim riots in Gujarat, India. Set in the village of Napa, the film investigates the role played by local Hindus and Muslims and their social institutions in maintaining the peace, in the context of a history of economic independence, communal harmony and syncretism.

2:30 pm: We are Foot Soldiers
Debolina Dutta and Oishik Sircar| 26 min| Bengali with English subtitles
In 2005, children of sex workers in Kolkata’s Sonagachhi red light district came together to form their own organization, Amra Padatik (Foot Soldiers), drawing inspiration from the work that their mothers have been doing to demand their right to sex work as work. The film journeys through the lives of Amra Padatik members whose entangled realities do not paint a picture of helplessness, but of political assertiveness and social consciousness.

About Kriti Film Club
This is an educational and research oriented initiative of Kriti: a development research,
praxis and communication team, screening documentaries since the year 2000. We offer an
independently financed and informal space for screening documentary films on a whole
range of social, development, human rights & environment issues. The whole idea of
the KRITI Film Club is to place thought- provoking cinema in a discussion group that will
help to deepen understanding on these issues amongst viewers and film-makers. We also
serve as a borrowing & distribution space for documentary films from India and
abroad.
