Event Description : Filmbooth First Cut- Short Films Premiers & Screenings.
'First Cut' - a monthly screening series to premier short films; to screen shorts made by independent as well as mainstream film makers from all over the country. Indian short films have established their presence in the international film festival circuits all over the world; however we rarely get to see those shorts being screened back home! First Cut is a platform for not just this, but also for creating a community of filmmakers who come together to watch and discuss their films - those they have made most recently and those which they are working on. This interaction, though through the pretext of a short film premier, is where we believe, the birth of a quality short film lies
Films to be screened are as follows :
Boot Joota
19 mins
Farha Alam, Anuj Adlakha
Munaf, a young man in his early twenties from a small town in Meerut has been working in Delhi for the past four months. He works as a darzi (tailor) at a textile workshop. He has been living with his cousin, Zubair in a two-bedroom flat. Munaf belongs to traditional Muslim family but holds a notion that his belief in God is beyond reading daily prayers and ritual worship. He frequently talks to his mother while living in Delhi from a phone booth. Munaf has a fascination for shoes, and given his financial background he cannot afford to buy new ones. One fine day he happens to see a pair of boots ( which he refers to as boot-joota) and is extremely fascinated by them. He mentions this desire to his mother who is unable to help him out, and forbids him to borrow money. His fascination leads him to the decision of saving enough money to buy a pair. He opens a makeshift ‘ darzi ki dukaan’ at night and also begins to save money on his food etcetera. This journey takes a toll on him physically, mentally and emotionally.
