This workshop has been designed in conjunction with the ongoing exhibition Extending the Line at the Vadehra Art Gallery. Looking at specific works from the ongoing show, the workshop will particularly focus on the evolution of the technique of drawing, and allow participants to explore and create expressions of their own. Though the art of draftsmanship may be the first step in becoming an artist, it is also the most essential element that has determined the evolution of art over centuries, and its transformation in Modern and Contemporary times.
The workshop will be conducted by the Baroda based artist, Shefalee Jain who is also one of the artists from the ongoing exhibition. Jain received her Masters in Visual Art from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M S University, Baroda. She received merit scholarships during her years of study and also the Ila Desai scholarship. She recently held a solo exhibition Painting Dis-ease and has participated in various group shows across the country. Apart from her art practice, Shefalee has been deeply involved in art education and remains interested in bridging the gap between the artist community and the public. She worked on illustrations for the project Different Tales conducted by Anveshi, Hyderabad, which involved collecting and illustrating stories dealing with lives of minority groups, written by Dalits and other minorities, and introducing them into school syllabi and libraries. She has also illustrated for childrens’ books published by Tulika Publishers, Chennai, apart from designing and illustrating for the children’s magazine Chakmak published by Eklavya, Bhopal.
