Poised between laughter and tears, Barney’s Version, is the picaresque and touching story of the politically incorrect, fully lived life of the impulsive, and fearlessly blunt Barney Panofsky. Nominated for 11 Genie awards and won seven including Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Paul Giamatti), Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Dustin Hoffman) and Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Minnie Driver). Winner of the Golden Globe for Best Actor, also nominated for an Academy Award and the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival. Based on the novel by Mordecai Richler.
Canada Diverse : Canada is a nation of immigrants, with one in five Canadians born outside of the country. These films are stories of this rich ethnic diversity – whether it is a search for roots (Incendies) or coming to grips with the past (Monsieur Lazar) or searching ways to preserve a heritage (Carry Me Home, Men of the Deeps). There's also snapshots of Jewish Montreal, as seen through the eyes of the late great novelist Mordecai Richler (Barney's Version) or glimpses of the "mainstream" cultures of Vancouver (Love and Other Dilemmas) and Montreal (Sticky Fingers).
