The Arshinagar Project presents "To the Flame" A workshop to explore sound and silence, movement and stillness & more at Karuna Wellness, A 105, Defence Colony > 26th-29th June 2012

Time : 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Entry : There are two categories - general participants and college or university students. The suggested fee for general participants is 3,500/- or more, and for students is 2,000/- or more. The reason we charge a fee is because The Arshinagar Project does not receive any institutional funding at this stage, and is completely dependent on individual contributions for our work. The fees pay for the facilitators' time as well as infrastructural costs. At the same time, we accommodate many participants without or at minimal charge in all our work, and we are also grateful to those who are able to contribute the full suggested fees or more, which helps support the participation of others. If you are unable to contribute the full fee, please mention this at the time of writing in to register and please state your reasons for asking for a waiver, and we will do our best to accommodate you either this time or at one of our future worksessions. No one will be turned away because of financial reasons.

Event Details : The Arshinagar Project presents 'To the Flame'.
A workshop to explore sound and silence, movement and stillness, breath and breathlessness, the Other and the Self, space and the spaceless, the body and the unbodied.

About the worksession: In this work, we are not attempting to teach  anything. We are merely creating a space for human exchange, and inviting and challenging you to enter and exist in that space. In this space there is song. The song may flow into you and become movement, the movement may become dance, the dance may become pure rhythm, the rhythm may fill the space, and the space may become song, and in the song there may be the love, the flame that you approach to die and be reborn. But all this is a matter of choice - you choose not to hide, to make yourself vulnerable, to give yourself up to the moment, to take up the responsibility of freedom, to go forward and meet the other one simply and without clichés and dead habits, to cleanse and be cleansed through the song. The worksession is inspired by the work of Jerzy Grotowski.

Process: The work is based on a foundation of songs from the Sufi Qawwali tradition, but we will also work with our own dreams, memories and images, with sounds, melodies, songs and patterns of movement emanating from our unconscious. Music thus becomes a purifying, healing life-force, and also the pathway through which we connect with our internal images and associations. We also have spaces for mindful discourse, where we reflect on the notions of pluralism, tolerance and harmony implicit in different mystical traditions, and what it means for our own life-practice. However, conventional social conversation is discouraged.
