Event Details : 'Jerusalem: Transcendence amidst Strife' a talk by Smt Lata Iyer, sustainability consultant who has assessed working conditions in Israel’s agricultural sector.
Holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims, Jerusalem is a perennial source of inspiration to the faithful. Yet, it has become the very symbol of division and intolerance. Illustrated by the speaker’s photographs, this lecture will take the audience through significant ‘stations’ of Jerusalem—among them the Gates of Jerusalem, the Temple Mount and Bethlehem—reflecting at each on what it says about the protracted conflict and current stalemate, on how the quarters of Armenians, Christians, Jews and Muslims speak for a pluralistic ethos, even as division makes itself felt constantly—even within the Christian community, over the custody of its monuments.
