Demand of energy remains one of the greatest challenges for developing countries like ours. While it is crucial for a high growth future, it also poses a grave question on the future of autonomy and the environment. What roads we take towards fulfilling this demand, will, to a large extent determine the quality of life for billions in the coming decades.
About 65% of the electricity consumed in India is generated by coal powered thermal power plants and the country has a massive capacity for power generation using hydroelectric power plants, which contributes 22% currently, but issues of displacement due to dams and diversion of the river systems have raised serious concerns on this option.
Join us for a discussion on “Clean Technology and Sustainable Energy: Are we serious?” at the launch of the report, Climate Change and Challenges of Clean Technology Deployment in India’s Power Sector, result of a collaboration between SustainAbility, ActionAid India & WWF India.
