Event Details : 'Unpacking The Museum' Chris Dercon will hold a lecture on the topic of art, museums and aesthetics.
Born in 1958 in Lier, Belgium, curator Chris Dercon studied art history, drama and film theory in Amsterdam and Leiden. After being a freelancer for art and culture in Belgian Radio and Television, Dercon moved to New York in 1988 to work as a program director in PS1 Contemporary Art Center. His curatorial work took him to Rotterdam, Kassel and Paris, until he finally became head of Haus der Kunst in Munich in 2003, where he established not only architecture, design and fashion in his program but also film and photography – the controversial approach, the mix of disciplines became Dercon’s trademark.
Dercon will take over as the Director of the Tate Modern, London in April, 2011.

Geeta Kapur is a critic and curator living in New Delhi. Her most important writings include artists' monographs, exhibition catalogues, the book Contemporary Indian Artists (Delhi, 1978) and When was Modernism: Essays on Contemporary Cultural Practice in India (Delhi, 2000). As curator, the most notable of Kapur's work include, the co-curated Bombay/Mumbai, Century City: Art and Culture in the Modern Metropolis, at Tate Modern, London, 2001; and subTerrain: artworks in the cityfold at the House of World Cultures, Berlin, 2003. She is one of the founder-editors of Journal of Arts & Ideas and advisory editor to Third Text and Marg. Having lectured world-wide in university and museum contexts, and held Fellowships at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, Clare Hall, University of Cambridge, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, Delhi, the Jawaharlal Nehru University and the University of Delhi.
