Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samurai?) is a 1954 movie co-written, edited and directed by Akira Kurosawa. The film takes place in the war-torn Japan of the early 16th century (specifically, before the Sengoku period ended and Japan was unified by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1582). It follows the story of a village of farmers that hire seven masterless samurai warriors to combat bandits who will return after the harvest to steal their crops.
