Event Details : RAS in association with Natya Ballet centre and Hindu College Society will be performing a Hindi Musical Play 'Desire under the Elms' a hindi adaptation of world renowned 1924 American classic play Desire Under the Elms written by Nobel laureate Eugene O’Neill on 21st November 2010 at 6.30 pm at Sri Ram Centre, Mandi House,New Delhi. The play is directed by Deepak Ochaney .
The play has been the subject of performance in almost all languages globally including Goodman Theatre and Broadway Theatre. The play has also been the subject of 1958 classic Hollywood by the same name starring Anthony Perkins and Sophia Loren who started her Hollywood debut from the movie. Set in 1850 New England, Desire centrers on the desire of all key players to own farm land and the cost of greed for all the players. At the heart is the domineering father Ephraim Cabot who wants to have complete control on his farm and his torrid relationships with his sons and wife. Things go awry with disastrous consequences as his young third wife Abbie and stepson Eben enter into passionate relationship.

Eugene O'Neill(1888-1953 ) is considered one of the greatest American playwrights of the 20th century. His accolades include four Pulitzer Prizes in Drama-more than any other playwright to date-and the Nobel Prize in Literature. His famous work include Beyond the Horizon, Anna Christie, Strange Interlude, The Emperor Jones, The Hairy Ape and Desire Under the Elms , Long Day's Journey Into Night, The Iceman Cometh and A Moon for the Misbegotten.

Deepak Ouchaney is active in the field of theatre and media for more than 25 years. Apart from Directing plays , radio and TV serials he is himself an accomplished actor with experience of working in more than 40 productions as an actor with eminent diectors like Satish Kaushik, Anil Chaudar (NSD) and Anand Vardhan (NSD). He has acted in more than 15 movies, serials and telefilms including Do Dooni Char , Poster, Bharat Ek Khoj, Kalyug, Great Maratha,Apradh,Pratidwani,Fikarchand etc with most of them produced by Doordarshan. He has also directed more than 15 serials and telefilms including Nainjyoti(DD),Nurse(DD), Savitri(DD), Ansoo,Chaya,Kumarsambhava, Malvikaagnimitram and Vikramavarshiya , Desire, Long way to go (BBC) among others. Some of the renowned plays directed by him are Rustam-Sorabh ,Desire, Dhai Akhsar prem ke ,Jackpot, Biwion ka Madarsa and Surya ki Antim Kiran se ….. His play Surya ke antim kiran…..was highly appreciated at international theatre festival in USA and Canada in 2002.
