The Films and Theater Society presents "Koobar aur Kaaki" Hindi Play at Shri Ram Centre, 4, Safdar Hashmi Marg > 7pm on 28th October 2010
Time : 7:00 pm
Event Details : The Films and Theater society (Regd.) cordially invites you for its successful theatre production “Koobar aur Kaaki”.‘Koobar aur Kaki’ – a full length drama is based on Munshi Premchand’ Bhudhi Kaki and Dhramveer Bharti’s Gulki Banno.
Some of the finest story-tellers of Hindi Literature have had this distinct ability to render works which are open to interpretations of the reader and still maintain the underlying thought and sublime value that the author sought to transmit. Munshi Premchand and Dharamveer Bharati arguably occupy the first row in this category. The creative team at FTS has made this effort to transcend the interpretations associated to a particular story. They come up with this idea of a combined interpretation of a couple of chosen works of these two stalwarts and this marriage offers KOOBAR AUR KAAKI, a full length drama based on Budhi Kaaki (by Munshi Premchand) and Gulaki Banno (by Dharamveer Bharati).
Kaaki who is rendered useless due to old age finds the only salvation in her desire to have good food. This never-pacified desire has become a menace for her family members. Gulaki on the other hand has been ousted by her husband for bearing a dead child and she with a hump on her back is fighting a silent battle of existence with her own people. Around these two ordinary stories there are numerous representative characters with their own convictions behind their deeds good or bad. An immaculate juxtaposition of these two stories with the newer interpretations, fine performances and a breezy fresh folk music creates a visual spectacle on stage.
PS:- The play is not an adaptation of the mentioned stories. It has drawn inspirations from the stories but the plot, screenplay, characters and interpretations have been re-casted in order to give it the shape it is in.
