Event Details : Open Air Film Night - German Music Films.
Open air, long night of cinema at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan’s lawns, this time brings you films on music. The mix of documentary and feature films tries to capture the essence and passion associated to music. In one night one goes through a journey not only from a village to a city but also from classical to folk, from metal to electronic.
1. 5.30 pm: Full Metal Village (2006) documentary by Cho Sung-hyung, duration: 90 min.
This documentary humorously presents how a heavy metal festival changes life in the tiny village Wacken and of its farmers. The movie won several German and international film awards
2. 7.05 pm: Elvis and Me (2006) short film by Michael Sommer, duration: 24 min.
For her 70th birthday, Hermine is given an Elvis imitators performance. A dream comes true. After all, she met Elvis once during his military service in Germany. Now, she thinks he has returned.
3. 7.45 pm: Fitzcarraldo (1982) drama by Werner Herzog, duration: 158 min.
Fitzcarraldo, an eccentric by the name of Brian Sweeney Fitzcarraldo, is a monomaniacal dreamer, with a bold dream, the dream of creating his own opera in the jungle. The nouveau riche millionnaires in the Amazon region show an arrogant lack of understanding for his gramophone music, but the poor children in Iquitos love him and his music; for a long time he had sought in vain to find someone to finance his project. Now Fitzcarraldo takes a steamship up a tributary of the Amazon, in order to reach the rubber region - the profits are to help finance his dream of a jungle opera.
4. 10.10 pm: Bandits (1997) romance by Lars Kraume, duration: 105 min.
The four heroines found a band in prison. They are invited to play at a police ball and take the chance to escape. A race between gigs and hide-outs from the cops begins.
5. 00.00 am: Karaoke Show (2007) stop-motion-animation by Karl Tebbe, duration: 4 min.
Animation filmmakers usually like to stand behind the camera rather than in front of it. At the age of 14, Karl Tebbe badly wanted to be able to dance like Michael Jackson. But you either have rhythm in your blood or you don't. Now, 22 years later, stop-motion animation has allowed him to finally fulfill his lifelong dream.
6. 00.15 am: Berlin Calling (2008) drama by Hannes Stöhr, duration: 100 min.
DJ Ickarus (Paul Kalkbrenner) from Berlin is touring with his manager and girlfriend Mathilde from club to club around the world and is about to release his album. However, all of his plans are thrown out of kilter after Ickarus is submitted to a psychiatric clinic high on drugs after a gig. A tragicomedy in Berlin of today.
