15th May : Ek tha Raja (Comic Fantasy)

The play is a drama with elements of humour, love and mystery that is metaphorically used to comment on the transition from feudalism to a new social system.
Ek Tha Raja is a play originally written in Bengali as 'Ballabhpur Ki Roopkatha' by Badal Sarcar. It has an appealing storyline with elements of humour, love and mystery. The play is about Bhupati, sole owner and last surviving son of the royal Bhuyian family, living in a dilapidated palace, which is metaphorically used to comment on the crumbling feudal system giving way to a new social order. Bhupati, who is under heavy debts wants to start his own practice as a dentist and plans to sell the old palace but its sale is filled with many complications. Somehow, Bhupati manages to get a potential buyer, an eccentric businessman, who comes over to see the palace with his wife and daughter. The prince along with his servant, friend and local merchants try to impress the guests with fake splendour and extravagant style. The play is made even more exciting and engaging with the discovery of the fact that the palace is haunted. How does the play end? Does Bhupati manage to sell the palace? What happens to the spirit? 16th May : Bade Aadmi (Satire, Comedy)

Director: Saurabh Bhatnagar.
A comedy, the play is a satire on modern times.
Our present day social life is a craze for modernity which is not yet defined or at best ill defined. We are all after a kind of living that is imitative of western way of life, which leaves us with fashion, but without substance. Bade Aadmi is one such victim of this craze. It is the story of a family which tries to adopt a lifestyle alien to them in order to impress others. Mithanlal wishes to marry his son and daughther in a rich family. To what extent will Mithanlal and his family go to make a good impression? Find out on May 16 at Shri Ram Centre, New Delhi at 7:30pm. An all-out comedy, Bade Aadmi is a satire on our times that leaves the audience retrospecting about the lives we aim to lead.
17th May : Mundan (Drama, AIDS Awareness)

A play meant to spread awareness about AIDS, it is story of a man who has contracted the disease.
Mundan, is a play written by Dr. Jitendra Sahay whose central aim is to spread awareness about AIDS, its complications, symptoms and causes. The playwright narrates a story of a man who contracts the disease through Mundan, a holy ceremony in Hindu culture.
The husband, Vineet goes for a pilgrimage with his friends and performs the holy ceremony of Mundan on his way. On his return, Vineet realises that his immune system has become very weak. Doubtful of his health conditions he asks his friend, Dr. Ramesh to perform a medical checkup. To Vineet’s astonishment, the laboratory reports reveal that he is infected with HIV. When Savitri, the wife of Vineet, learns about the infection, she starts doubting Vineet and blames him for having broken her trust.
Laxmi, the servant maid of the couple, plays an important role. She starts believing that she too has HIV. Under the influence of her friend who also works in the same neighbourhood, she begins to think that the disease spreads through human contact. How does AIDS spread? About the Three Arts Club : Founded in 1943, the Three Arts Club was an amateur theatre group that entertained and enthralled audiences for 40 years. It was credited with having established the culture of drama in the capital city of the country. Luminaries such as Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Zakir Hussain, Shri Charan Singh, amongst others, graced its plays. The Club also has the distinction of being the first one to give a platform to women on the Delhi stage. The Three Arts Club was revived by Ms. Anuradha Dar on the 25th death anniversary of her father Shri R.M. Kaul, founder of Three Arts Club.
