  • About Regina Silveira : The art work showcased in the exhibition won’t be just a mere eye catching experience for the visitors. Regina’s work will be on display at Visual Arts Gallery from June 4, 2007 to June 12, 2007. Regina Silveira graduated in Visual Arts from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. In the 1960's, Regina Silveira began to paint, draw and make prints, showing empathy with figurative expressionism, a tendency with strong roots in the modernism of the country. The artist’s growing interest for Architecture, is clearly visible in traditional representation of visual architectural spaces. In her works, real spaces are included, spaces where she builds installations, as well as virtual ones, represented by conventional architectural drawings, which she says serves her as “motives for distortions and estrangements”. Her works are thus a bridge between two different art forms. The collective use of other talents possessed by her such as photography and painting help her achieve this goal where both art and architecture are merged in interesting ways. She showed at the 1st Havana Biennial, Cuba in 1984. Her invitational group exhibitions include the 7th Triennial of India, in New Delhi (1991), Re-Aligning Vision: Alternative Currents in South American Drawing at the Miami Art Museum, Florida, USA, (2001) and Brazil Body and Soul, at Guggenheim Museum, New York (2001). Among her recent international group shows are We Come in Peace… - Histories of the Americas, at the Art Musée Contemporain de Montréal, Québec Canada (2004). Grafias at Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand – MASP (1996) and To be Continued at NIU Art Museum, Chicago, USA, in 1997. In 2000 she received the Sérgio Mottta Prize for Art and Technology and started 2003 with the exhibition ClaraLuz at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, São Paulo, which received an award from the São Paulo Art Critics Association (APCA-SP). In 2004 she presented two solo shows abroad at Centro Cultural de España, in Montevideo, Uruguay, and at El Cubo, Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, in Mexico, DF. In 2005 she held a show at Galería Alcuadrado, in Bogota, Colombia and she exhibited the installation Lumen at Palacio de Cristal, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid, Spain.
  • One visit to her studio and the sight of her prodigious drawings and sketches would suffice to demonstrate her mastering of the handcrafting of those processes. It is in that sense that she puts herself into speculation about the way each thing, when touched by light, has its volume changed for a black plane, or, similarly, how each thing, when contemplated by a sharp look, can be transposed to a plane that can thus be paper or, like it is the case, magnificently amplified towards the blind face of a building.
  • Inside Regina Silveira’s logic, the geometrical representation of things — all kinds of anamorphosis — besides proving its very existence, would be equally the manifestation of the enigma they bring inside of themselves, its disturbing and mysterious angle.
  • About Arthur Luiz Piza : Arthur Luiz Piza was born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1928. However, this Etching maker, painter, sculptor, currently lives in Paris since 1951. Piza’s work will be on display at Palm Court Gallery from June 4, 2007 to June 12, 2007.This doesn’t just reflect his experience in the field but also his expertise as he has been honored with lots of awards and performed in various exhibitions. He has had solo and group exhibitions in several countries, such as: Brazil, Japan, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Yugoslav and so on. Some of the many international awards that he has won are the Gold Medal at the 2nd biennial of etching, Florence, Italy in 1970 and the Engraving Prize at La Havana, Cuba, in 1965.
  • In his own words, his “obsession lies with arranging and dis-arranging”. He tries to create an accumulation of wires in a favourable field for arranging his forms, in varying depths and positions, constructing and deconstructing them in a given space, as if searching for something hidden. His art can be best described as one which infiltrates itself into the universe of geometry and mathematics in order to find out how to challenge the game of art.
  • He has also won prestigious awards in the industry which have also rewarded him with acclaim and accolades. Among these a few are mentioned here: Acquisition prize, 2nd Biennial of S. Paulo, Brazil, 1953, National Engraving Grand prize, Engraving Prize at La Havana, Cuba, 1965, Engraving Prize of Santiago, Chili, 1966, Engraving Prize, 2nd Biennial ibéro-american, Mexico, 1980 and Grand Prize of Jury, Sâo Paulo, 1994. He has also exhibited his artistic talent at the following institutions: Solomon Guggenheim Museum, Modern Art Museum of Belgrade, Galleria National of Modern Art of Rome, Modern Art Museum of New York, Bibliothèque National, Paris, Victoria and Albert Museum, London etc.
