Embracing spring season with Basant Bazaar by Dastkar

Dastkar presents Basant bazaar is one of the three major annual events, with over a 100 craft & natural product stalls. It brings a mix of established craft groups & NGOs, as well as small artisans coming to Delhi at nature bazaar, andheria modh, near chattarpur metro station from 15th February 2018 to 26th February 2018.

The 10 days Basant bazaar at nature bazaar will showcase many crafts and natural products from  lacquer toys- lacquer crafts are vivid and glossy & terracotta-  a type of earthenware, is a clay-based unglazed or glazed ceramic to organic clothing & meenakari jewellery- Meenakari designing basically refers to the process of coating grooves or engravings in ornaments with colored enamels.

The bazaar will be showcasing Crochet traditions from the West  with chikan embroidery-it is is a delicate and artfully done hand embroidery on a variety of textile fabric like muslin, silk, chiffon, organza, net etc. , kutchi mirrorwork- The Kutch Embroidery is a handicraft and textile signature art tradition of the tribal community of Kutch District in Gujarat, kantha- it is a type of embroidery typical of eastern South Asia, mangalgiri- Mangalagiri fabric is produced by weaving with the help of pitlooms from combed yarn by warp and woof interlacing, & kalamkari, Dhokra, pattachitra, fibre weaving, paper mache, khadi & khurja pottery all in one place

Further, there will be a fascinating exhibition by  Har.Yarn.V, Barahmasi,  Adarth and  Pallav Chaudhary it is a special exhibition of hand block printed, hand embroidered and shibori dyed sarees, kurtas, dresses, stoles and more, one can buy these products as well at DASTKAR Exhibition Hall from 15th february till 18th february 2018.

Also Basant Bazaar is offering  interactive workshops and craft demonstrations on Origami-it is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture, puppet making , dream catchers- it is a handmade willow hoop, on which is woven a net or web, coasters- it is an item used to rest drinks upon, fabric pom-poms by the artist Juhi Malhotra will showcase the  design which is handmade, full of love and something that can take you into your childhood as each product has a certain innocence and a childlike quality. she will also teach the visitor how to make these in their free time. this workshop  will be showcased on the weekend.

The Dastkar BASANT BAZAAR is also a coming together of craftspeople, grass roots NGOs, organic and eco-friendly practices and products - A galaxy of textiles and garments, home decor and furnishings, traditional folk art, accessories, gift items, toys, herbal and recycled products. Come and celebrate BASANT with us in all its rich variety and do keep at least a couple of hours to experience its full flavour!" says Laila Tyabji (Founder of dastkar)

Plus they have a wide selection of Indian from Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra till West Bengal and international food from Afghanistan tilll somalia stalls providing delectable spreads. A lively Cultural performances on Chhau Dance from Odisha This dance ranges from celebrating martial arts, acrobatics and athletics performed in festive themes of a folk dance, to a structured dance with religious themes and is is traditionally an all males troupe, regionally celebrated particularly during spring every year.

About Dastkar : Each Dastkar event reflects the season, mood and occasion. The WINTER MELA is about warmth and festivity: Woolies, shawls, silk textiles, rugs, plus the foods & flavors of Christmas and New Year. There’s a special focus on products from Nepal, Afghanistan, Kashmir, and Kutch. KHAMIR, a wonderful Kutchi NGO,  will be launching their new wool and leather collection. With over 15 different regions participating, the bazaar promises to offer a  rich diversity of crafts and cultures.  Do keep at least a couple of hours to experience its full flavor.
