Schedule :

3rd January : Pather Sandhan {The Quest}
(Bengali/2016/116mins)
Dir. Sikta Biswas.
Adapted from a story by Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay, famous for writing ‘Pather Panchali’, the film “Pather Sandhan” set in rural Bengal of the 1950s. It traces the journey of a philanthropist school-teacher, Naran Master who holds his head amid hundreds of obstacles of life (including the suicidal death of his son) and carry on with his only mission of nation-building, expecting nothing in return.

4th January : Baranda {The Balcony}
(Bengali/2017/132mins).
Dir. Reshmi Mitra.
Based on a novel by Moti Nandi, Baranda reflects the one liberating space in an otherwise dark, stifling life - the balcony. The film offers a sneak peek into suppressed desires, longing, unravelling who we really are underneath.

5th January : Red-Oleanders (Raktokarobi).
(Bengali/2017/113mins)
Dir. Amitava Bhattacharya.
The film is inspired from Rabindranath Tagore’s drama Raktokarobi, reimagined in the light of contemporary social and political conditions.

6th January : Smug
(Bengali/2017/73mins)
Dir. Anindya Banerjee.
When there is no faculty to remember, our eyes fail to interpret civilization or any cultivated mores and manners. In the scheme of the plot, the characters lose memory when they are transported to an unknown zone. Their entire orientation is henceforth driven by basic instincts.

7th January : Commrade
(Bengali/2017/110mins)
Dir. Shankudeb Panda.
Commrade shot in different areas of West Midnapore, captures turbulent political episodes of West Bengal.
