THE SHONAI COLLECTIVE (ft. Rie Ona & Fabio Carlucci)

The Shonai Collective is basically a trio based out of Kolkata. The band members are Premjit Dutta, Aakash Ganguly and Shonai. The sound can be best described as a mix of funk, traditional jazz, blues and pop. They mostly perform their own compositions along with a few popular jazz tunes rearranged in their unique style.
The journey of the collective began when they recorded two of their own compositions for a compilation album of improvised music in late 2016. This trio ties up with various artists and performs all over the country.
This time Rie Ona and Fabio Carlucci, two beautiful horn players have collaborated with this collective.

- Drums - PREMJIT started his career learning Tabla. Over the years he had dabbled in various styles of music. He is known for his versatility. He is a music educator at Calcutta School of Music. Premjit is endorsed by Vic Firth, Sonor and Remo.
- Bass - AAKASH, the youngest of the three, forms the backbone of the band. He possesses an effortless groove and is adept in various styles of music.
- Piano/Keyboards - SHONAI, the trio is his brain child. He is a Contemporary Jazz Pianist. His experiences and knowledge in various genres of music is reflected in his compositions and arrangements. Besides working as a session’s musician, he is part of the Piano faculty at the Calcutta School of Music.

About Rie Ona :

- Alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, clarinet – RIE ONA started taking Piano lessons in early childhood. Since then her life has been with music learning. She played Clarinet in junior high school ensemble team and a brass band, Guitar at college folk song study club, then Saxophone in Jazz Big Band in Jakarta and Tokyo.
Shifting to India in 2008, she has been actively collaborating with musicians and has had opportunities to play at music festivals throughout India with several bands. She has been playing as a soloist for various shows such as Cosmopolitan fashion show, designer brand launch, etc.

About Fabio Carlucci :

- Trumpet - FABIO CARLUCCI, classical trumpeter, completed his musical studies in "Civic Music School" and in “Conservatorio G. Verdi”, both in Milan, and joined a few symphonic orchestras, among which are the Hans Swarowsky Symphonic Orchestra and the "UCSC" Symphonic Orchestra where he played as first trumpet for 5 years.
He worked with "Piccolo Teatro" in Milan playing incidental music and with various brass bands in north Italy. In 2006 he moved to Delhi, taking a break from his classical musical activity, and recently started collaborationswith a few artists in the Pop/Jazz scene here bringing his classical background into these new horizons.
