Event Description : National award winning choreographer Sudesh Adhana is going to present the stage version of his work "Unatamed Donkeys"

Funded and supported by the Norway arts council and oppland culture.

About the choreographer: Choreographer Sudesh Adhana is a recipient of “National award for best choreography” in 2014, from Hon.  President Pranab Mukharjee for his work in movie Haider for the song Bismil. Currently he is based in  Norway where he previously had his dance education and was awarded the young artist establishment grant  by Norwegian Arts funds. Majority of his non-commercial dance projects is being funded by ART Council over a  decade including “untamed donkeys” where he decided to work with team of Indian male dancers. A female  version of untamed donkeys is also under consideration here in Oslo, Norway, by switching the roles we often  think “what if we lived in a matriarchal society?” And Men had to go through all what women have gone  through

Concept &Choreography: Sudesh Adhana
Choreographer’s note:
“Why all the Gods are male?
Is young mind able to filter information full of contradictions?”
After doing the street performances both in India and Norway in 2016, now we are ready to make a stage  version of this work .The basic idea is the same we will carry the sense of being on the street to the stage, the  reason for creating the stage version is to do an all India tour of this project in 2018 in as many places as  possible.  This work is a reaction to the recent crimes against women in India. Thought this is a global phenomenon the  work investigates into the gang rapes that have become frequent from past few years in India as its case study.  One must think this is the outcome of suppressed mindset, and solution is never going to be achieved by  punishment  History- the research for the performance was carried out in Dec 2014- Jan 2015, in Delhi NCR (outdoors as  well as movement development) The research involved field trip to different regions in and around Delhi,  developing movement motives in the studio, presenting short section of work to get a feel and pulse of the  audience .The main objective was to get a deeper understanding of the subject we are working with. We  spend time investigating one idea from every possible perspective. This process has helped us to rethink and  retrain our self to look at performance and its place in the present times differently. So we want to define  “Untamed Donkeys” as a work, which floats between a performance and a protest, between self-reflective and  being a mirror to the culture.  After doing the street performances both in Delhi India and Norway in 2016, now we are ready to make a  stage version of this work
