Sunit Tandon introduces a recording of the 2005 Salzburg Festival’s production of Verdi’s perennial favourite with an all-star 

cast: Anna Netrebko, Rolando Villazon and Thomas Hampson. 

The beautiful courtesan, Violetta, meets the well-born Alfredo Germont, and for love of him abandons her feverish life of pleasure. Alfredo’s father intrudes on their idyllic existence and demands that Violetta renounce Alfredo for the sake of the family's honour, with tragic consequences.
